ENMU-ROSWELL TO OPEN RENOVATED AUTOMOTIVE AND WELDING TECHNOLOGY CENTER
Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will celebrate the renovation of the Automotive and Welding Technology Center (AWTC), 78 University Blvd., on Wednesday, April 13. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. following by tours of the building. The Community College Board will conduct its April meeting in the building beginning at 4 p.m. The ceremony will include several speakers, to include Roswell’s newly elected Mayor, Tim Jennings.
The AWTC renovation was funded through a $3 million General Obligation bond issue approved by voters in 2018 and $2.9 million in campus capital reserve funds. The remodeling of the facility allows more automotive and welding students to be trained in an improved, modern learning environment, utilizing advanced equipment and technology. Students will begin classes in the 34,910 square foot facility when the fall semester begins August 15. Currently, welding technology students are taking classes in a temporary shop behind the new maintenance building on campus. Automotive technology students are training in a leased facility off campus.
“We are excited to welcome visitors and students to the newly redesigned and remodeled facility,” said Dr. Shawn Powell, President, ENMU-Roswell. “Our students and instructors have been patiently awaiting the completion of the building and look forward to moving back to this improved training space. We also of course could not have accomplished this project without the support of our community and the voters who approved GO bond funding.”
