ENMU-ROSWELL NURSING PROGRAM RANKED AMONG THE BEST IN SOUTHWEST
The Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Associate of Science Nursing Program is ranked number 11 in a new 2021 list of the 15 best ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) Programs in the Southwest. The list is compiled by NursingProcess.org https://www.nursingprocess.org/best-adn-programs-southwest/
According to NursingProcess.org, ENMU-Roswell ranked 11th out of a total of 268 schools offering ADN programs in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. The programs were evaluated and ranked based on four important factors: NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) pass rates, academic quality, the nursing school’s reputation, and affordability. The following weightage was assigned to each of these factors:
1.NCLEX-RN Pass Rates (2016-2019): 60%
• 2016 Pass Rates: 40%
• 2017 Pass Rates: 30%
• 2018 Pass Rates: 20%
• 2019 Pass Rates: 10%
2. Academic Quality: 20%
3. The Nursing School’s Reputation: 10%
4. Affordability: 10%
Dr. Laurie Jensen, ENMU-Roswell Assistant Vice President of Health Sciences, expressed her appreciation of the Nursing program faculty and staff. “The Nursing program educators continuously work hard to offer students high quality education using state of the art instructional methodology,” she said. “We are all honored that the ENMU-Roswell Nursing Program ranked among the best in the Southwest.”
Jensen said a new initiative is underway to expand the ENMU-Roswell Nursing Program. Instead of admitting one nursing student cohort annually, the program will admit two nursing student cohorts each academic year. “By admitting two nursing student cohorts per year, with fall and spring semester starts, new student enrollment will rise resulting in increased completion and graduation rates.”
Jensen says that ENMU-Roswell Nursing Program expansion will begin with the fall 2021 semester. “We have been planning a Nursing Program expansion for quite some time now, and we are very pleased to be able to offer students interested in becoming Registered Nurses increased opportunity to enter into ENMU-Roswell Associate of Science Nursing Program not only in the fall semester, but in the spring semester, too. Furthermore, we are excited to be collaborating with ENMU-Ruidoso to expand ENMU-Roswell Nursing Program course offerings onto the ENMU-Ruidoso campus. This opportunity will allow for students in the Ruidoso region to take many of the ENMU-Roswell nursing courses from the ENMU-Ruidoso campus. A new Nursing Simulation-Lab Center on the Ruidoso campus is under construction, so the same high quality nursing skills training can take place that is offered at ENMU-Roswell.”
The NursingProcess.org website notes that ENMU-Roswell is the only college in Southeast New Mexico with a high-fidelity medical simulation center. “Its campus comprises of ‘Smart Classrooms’ equipped with cutting edge technology to make teaching and learning more effective. The college also focuses on maintaining a smaller student to faculty ratio giving you the benefit of having one-on-one interactions with your faculty.”
The Nursing Program at ENMU-Roswell typically takes three years to complete. This includes a year of prerequisite courses and two years of nursing courses. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Upon completion of the program, students will earn an Associate of Science degree, and are prepared to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) exam.
