ENMU-Roswell will host a Hunger Awareness presentation on Monday, April 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on campus, 64 University Blvd. The program will feature a panel of community leaders:
- Raewyn Aspeitia, Salvation Army
- Mark Green, Harvest Ministries
- Enrique Moreno, Roswell Community Disaster Relief
- Sherry Mumford, United Way
- Brad Ussery, Community Kitchen
A selection committee comprised of staff from New Mexico Higher Education Department and the Governor’s Farm and Hunger Initiative awarded ENMU-Roswell $20,000 for the Higher Education Department’s Addressing College Hunger Initiative. ENMU-Roswell’s project is called, “Uplifting Food Opportunities (UFO).” The ENMU-Roswell Foundation also provided funding for the project.
ENMU-Roswell plans to use the funds to create and sustain a food pantry for students on campus. Planning for the pantry is underway with the goal of opening in the fall. ENMU-Roswell discovered through a Real College survey conducted in the fall of 2020 that 39 percent of ENMU-Roswell students had experienced food insecurity in the prior 30 days.
